The main character Dee in The Sign Of The Server parallels Charles De Luca’s real life. As a gang member, he scavenged the docks of New York at night where all the worlds treasures lay haphazardly crated and practically unguarded. That’s how street kids survived in the height of the depression. It was commonplace. So were the knife fights. When he realized there was no future in the streets, Charles De Luca decided to pursue his education. As he turned his life around, Mr. De Luca wrote plays in school and won the English medal. As a young man he sold real estate, but saw a greater opportunity in the meat packing business. At twenty- three, he became president of his own meat packing corporation. At twenty-six, he had a portion control business in partnership with General Electric Credit Corporation. At thirty, he was a director of the local Chamber of Commerce. Being civic-minded, he became a member of the Congressional Club. As an accomplished martial artist, Mr. De Luca was active in a program teaching self defense with members of the Nassau County police department. At thirty-five, he branched out in real estate developing luxury homes in Florida and Long Island. While remaining active in his business, he returned to his first love which was writing. Charles De Luca is a self made businessman, an accomplished martial artist, yachtsman and horseman. He is married and has three children. Mr. De Luca’s first book was published in 1987 and mass marketed by New American Library. Because of demand, The Sign Of The Server was republished in 2004. When Mr. De Luca was offered option money from Hollywood, he decided to start his own production company, Virgo Productions Inc. Mr. De Luca has completed a screenplay based on his novel and is currently working on several projects including the sequel to The Sign of the Server . |
