The Sign of the Server IN THE EVER-SHIFTING NATURE OF GOOD AND EVIL—EAST MEETS WEST…
For centuries in the Orient, love and death have been an art. But this is not the time of the ancients. The time is now. New warlords wearing three piece suits betray the ideals they are supposed to serve in New York and Washington. This is a labyrinth of evil that spreads from the Far East to America, where the underworld mocks the laws that cannot control it. It’s 1937, the height of the depression and the saga begins with a gangland fight on the docks of New York, leaving one boy close to death and the other fleeing what he thinks is a murder charge. Dee, our protagonist stows away on a China bound freighter, only to be imprisoned when the contraband ship lands in Shanghai. Behind bars Dee meets Duckson, a Korean Warlord, who becomes his mentor. Together they escape notorious Kongpin Prison. Years later Dee returns to America and with the Warlords backing, builds an import export empire. Just when he thinks all is well, Dee’s world is threatened when his childhood enemy he thought he killed on the docks of New York, reappears as the head of a crime family sworn to destroy him. Dee’s life is influenced by three women; Crimson Orchid a Shanghai courtesan, Chen Lee, the Warlord’s daughter; and his wife Sylvia. The charismatic characters culminate in a story that will be remembered. The Sign Of The Server is a clever intricate colorful play of one man’s life against the forces of destiny. |
